The mail brings good news to The Daily News Christmas Cheer Fund, all the way from Falls Church.
If you aren't aware, Falls Church is fairly close to the White House — yes, that White House. In fact, Falls Church is in Virginia.
The envelope has AIR MAIL stamped on it in red letters. Which tells you more about Jack Finarelli than anything else, although I do wonder, knowing him and his sense of humour as I do, why he didn't stamp it with PONY EXPRESS.
Jack is The Sports Curmudgeon and if you are a sports fan and haven't visited his blog — sportscurmudgeon.com — you really should. He really does offer up a lot of food for thought. (Yesterday, for example, he provided terrific analysis on the mess that is the NFL's Washington franchise.)
Along with his donation to your Christmas Cheer Fund, Jack writes: "Consider this your 'payment' for all your wonderful columns during the year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year."
See, he's not really that curmudgeonly.

There is more great news for your Christmas Cheer Fund, too, because the bids on the leather jacket have started to arrive.
For the second consecutive year, Leroy (Krazyboy) Connell has provided a limited edition leather jacket to benefit the fund. The jacket that is available this time retails for about $800.
As of late yesterday afternoon, the high bid was at $510, which is up from the minimum of $400 for which we had asked. The winner will be able to select the jacket and have a name embroidered on it.
If you would like to get in on the action, call our front desk (250-372-2331) or stop by our office at 393 Seymour St. The deadline is Friday, Dec. 20, at 3 p.m.

A note from the Can-Ital Ladies Society tells us that they held their Christmas dinner party on Monday, and "in lieu of a gift exchange we took up a collection for the Christmas Cheer Fund. We are happy to present you with $565 for our local charities."
Thank you so much, and here's to a great festive season for all of you.
Rachel Long, as she always does, includes a seasonal note with her donation. She writes:
"May you have the gladness of Christmas, which is hope; the spirit of Christmas, which is peace; the heart of Christmas, which is love."
This year's Christmas Cheer Fund will be shared equally by the Kamloops Food Bank, the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home, the New Life Mission, the Kamloops United Church's PIT Stop program, and the YMCA-YWCA Y Women's Shelter.
To join in on the fun, clip and use one of the coupons that appear in this newspaper, or come on down to our office at 393 Seymour St., and let one of our cheerful elves help you.
