WolfPack women sign trio from South Kamloops

With an eye to the future, the TRU WolfPack announced the signing of three local recruits for its women’s basketball program Wednesday.

Guards Emma Piggin and Kanesha Reeves, and forward Emily Vilac, will join the WolfPack for the 2014-15 season. All three are currently playing for the South Kamloops Titans senior girls basketball team and were part of the squad that won the B.C. AAA high school girls basketball championship last season.

“Emma has a point guard mentality and will do very well learning our offense from Jorri (Duxbury) next year,” said WolfPack head coach Scott Reeves in a news release. “She is a longer guard who can rebound and defend some of the taller guards we have in Canada West. Emily is a true 6-foot-2 and could grow taller than that. Emily can lay on the perimeter and shoot the three, her range and size will be a real advantage for us. Kanesha has worked extremely hard at her perimeter shooting and will help extend defenses.”
Kanesha is Scott’s daughter.

Piggin, Kanesha and Vilac have all played under coach Reeves as a part of the Kamloops Basketball Academy. Each of them said that staying in Kamloops and becoming a part of the WolfPack was always the goal.

“I am ready for the pressure,” Kanesha said in a news release. “I want kids to come up and say ‘there is the hometown girl that is coming to play for TRU.’ I am ready for that.”

The WolfPack now has signed four players for next season — it announced last week that guard Michelle Bos of the Surrey-Holy Cross Crusaders had committed to the program.
