Merritt and the Nicola Valley are undertaking a pilot project to develop destination branding based on a new tourism plan the city recently adopted.
The plan was developed after planning discussions and workshops held in the area earlier this year.
With a commitment to uphold best practices, the plan lays out a blueprint with which they will develop marketing for visitor experiences with the assistance of the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA).
An initial step will be to form a tourism advisory committee, which will include representatives of the city, TNRD, visitor services, First Nations, business groups, arts and culture organizations and tourism operators.
Over the coming months, the project will begin developing promotional resources, drawing on the recently adopted Thompson Okanagan regional tourism strategy and related materials. They plan to work with tourism leaders and stakeholders to refine the brand concepts, themes and designs.
