With the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball squad on its Christmas hiatus, head coach Pat Hennelly has been busy recruiting for the future of his program.
Monday the team announced Hennelly has achieved one of his primary recruiting goals for next season: signing a libero.
Isaac Smit of Kelowna’s Okanagan Mission secondary has committed to the WolfPack for the 2014-15 season. Finding a libero was imperative for Hennelly, as current libero Spencer Reed is in his final season of eligibility, with Matt Krueger and Blake Majcher a season behind him.
“This was my No. 1 priority in recruiting for this year,” Hennelly said in a news release. “My priority was to get a libero in place who I thought, entering his second year, would handle some of the workload.”
Joining Smit is Cole Hanson of Kelowna’s Mount Boucherie secondary. Hanson is a middle/outside hitter, though at 6-foot-3 Hennelly said he might be a better fit on the outside at the CIS level.
Hanson and Smit played together with the Kelowna Volleyball Club and Team B.C. in 2013.
