TRU appoints new director of environment and sustainability

Jim Gudjonson

Thompson Rivers University has a new environment and sustainability director, but he’s not new to the job.

Jim Gudjonson officially takes over the position Jan. 1, but he’s been in the role on an interim basis since Tom Owens retired in April.

Since then he’s completed the education component required for LEED Gold certification for the Brown Family House of Learning, conducted a composting study and acquired funding for a six-month pilot, obtained a fully funded electric vehicle assessment pilot for TRU’s fleet of vehicles, and provided oversight for the beverage container review process.

He holds a masters of arts in interdisciplinary studies and a certification from TRU as a journeyman electrician and mountain guide.

Gudjonson will continue to be responsible for sustainability initiatives and projects, grant proposals and supervision of office staff.
