No Joshing! Birthday benefits Christmas Cheer fund

Josh Glover was a Christmas baby.

In other words, he is 10 years of age for one more week; he will turn 11 on the big day. (Yes, that is one week from today. Yikes!)

This year, Josh chose to take a different approach to his birthday party, and The Daily News Christmas Cheer Fund is the big beneficiary.

"I had an early birthday party this year," Josh writes, "and, instead of gifts, I asked for donations to you guys at the Christmas Cheer Fund. I was able to raise $180 and was very happy about it.

"I hope this helps lots of people have a great Christmas."

Hey, is that a great Christmas story, or what?

Thank you so much, Josh, and here's to a terrific Christmas for you and your family.

Josh's note got the day off to a wonderful start, and it only got better.

Old friends Pat and Tom — they aren't old; we've been friends for a while — write to say: "That time of year again and you are hard at it, along with your Elves. . . . please accept our gift to help. We wish we could give more and hopefully someday we will be able to."

As well, the gang at Kamloops Computer Centre is helping us again, and it's always terrific to have them on board. Here's to a great festive season to all of you.

It's great to hear from Stu MacGregor, as we always do at this time of the year, along with Sharon and Rick Arnish, Sharon Elvers, the Kings, Pat and Bob, Evelyn Meyer, Rita and Bob Kennell, and all of our old and new friends.

Thank you all so much for your generosity.

Tuesday, we heard from Leo the Cat and Scout the Dog, too, and that means the Christmas Cheer bus is building up quite a menagerie. Don't forget that Teddy the Wonder Lizard and Snuffy the Seal climbed on board earlier in the month.

No, we don't discriminate against animals here, and now I'm wondering if there might be a horse out there that perhaps is interested in helping out.

We have had to make a small adjustment here as a donation from Anonymous was shorted by $50. It should have been $100, but an error was made. That now has been corrected, with apologies and a Merry Christmas to Anonymous.

The elves will be smiling today because rumour has it that Jim Doan, the sensei at the Western Karate Academy, will drop by The Daily News. Jim is one of the elves' favourite people because he always brings lots of money and none of it is loose change.

So you know there will be good news here again Thursday.

The high bid on the Krazyboy limited edition leather jacket remains at $510. Don't forget that this jacket normally would retail for around $800.

To make a bid, call our front desk (250-372-2331) or stop by our office at 393 Seymour St. The deadline is Friday, at 3 p.m.

This year, your Christmas Cheer Fund will be shared equally by five local charities —the Kamloops Food Bank, the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home, the New Life Mission, the Kamloops United Church's PIT Stop program, and the YMCA-YWCA Y Women's Shelter.

To get in on the fun, use one of the coupons that you will find in this newspaper, or come on down to our office at 393 Seymour St., and visit with our elves. One of them will be pleased to help.
