Longtime offender gets six months for shoplifting

A 53-year-old offender involved with petty crime for nearly half his life will remain in jail for another six-month sentence.

Lars Grip pleaded guilty Tuesday to theft under $5,000. He stole razor blades and meat valued at about $135 from Save-On-Foods on Oct. 23.

He has remained in jail since. Grip has a record of breaching court orders, property and drug offences.

Judge Chris Cleaveley levied six months new jail time after a recommendation from the Crown and defence.

Defence lawyer Don Campbell said Grip suffered a brain injury last year to add to his problems, causing him short-term memory issues.

Grip is scheduled to go to a treatment centre on his release from jail.
