Big third period lifts Heat to victory

The Chase Heat scored three third-period goals in a 3-1 victory over the visiting Sicamous Eagles on Wednesday.

Sicamous’s Matthew Maetche opened the scoring in the first period. The score remained 1-0 until Kurtis Johnson tied it on a power play with 11:24 remaining.

Stuart Beckett put Chase ahead with 3:15 remaining, before Connor Venne scored into an empty net. Jacob Mattes made 39 saves for Chase, five fewer than Sicamous’s Kris Joyce.

The Heat is scheduled to play the Steam in Summerland on Friday, before playing host to the Kamloops Storm on Saturday, 7 p.m., at Art Holding Memorial Arena. The Saturday game features free admission.
