Sports Briefs: Stachoski scores three as Bears take down Jets

The Bears beat the Jets 7-5 in a midget recreational hockey game Tuesday evening.

Shaymus Stachoski had three goals to lead the Bears, who also got two goals from Ty Nielsen and two more from Nicholas Panter.

Pacific Thompson, with two, Justin DeVries, Kyle McIlwain and Jake Boileau scored for the Jets.

The Kamloops Blazers announced Wednesday that 2,332 teddy bears and 1,023 tuques/gloves were thrown on the ice after the game’s Teddy Bear Game on Dec. 7.

The Blazers also raised 3,046 pounds of food and $1,499.87 in fan donations for the Kamloops Food Bank on Dec. 6.

Salmon Arm has been selected as the host site for the 2014 female under-18 B.C. Cup.

The tournament, featuring 80 players divided onto four teams, is scheduled for April 23-27 at the Shaw Centre. According to a news release, “The U18 B.C. Cup will feature a very demanding schedule and push players through games, practices, off-ice technical training and fitness testing.  Players will be challenged in an elite, competitive environment for an invitation to the U18 Provincial Camp and ultimately a spot on Team B.C. to participate at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George . . .”
