Attempted break-in earns man date in court

He smashed two windows and pulled an imitation gun — now this 28-year-old Kamloops man has a date in court.

Mounties were called to the 700 block of Columbia Street just after midnight on Thursday night with a report of a man trying to force his way into a residence by breaking windows and reaching in to unlock the door, Sgt Dave Prentice said.

When confronted by two of the occupants, he retreated to the street and pulled out an imitation handgun from a knapsack on the sidewalk. He pointed it before fleeing.

Officers tracked him down to the back of a taxi nearby.

"The taxi driver initially lied to police about where she had picked up her fare but it was soon determined he was the suspect," Prentice said.

The imitation handgun was found on him, he said.

The man faces a number of charges.
