With the pre-Christmas rush winding down, the Dennis-Lee family thought it would be an ideal time to decorate the perfect Christmas tree - a first for the family.
And it didn't take Craig Lee, Kristin Dennis and son Braeden to find the tree they wanted at Woodward's Christmas Tree Farm in Westsyde on Sunday afternoon.
The family had just disembarked John Woodward's tractor and stepped into the rows of Christmas trees when it found just what it was looking for.
"It was the one sitting right in front of us," Dennis said once the tree was packed away in Lee's truck.
"It had that little Chevy Chase/Christmas Vacation aspect to it."
Lee was impressed at how quickly they found the tree.
"It was the first one we saw," he said.
The tree is a blue spruce, and fits nicely into the Vancouver Canucks' theme the family will decorate it to. Dennis said the decorations are silver and green.
Lee lives in Kamloops, Dennis and Braeden in Seattle, but they've spent Christmases together before. However, Lee's always lived in an apartment. This year the family has a house of its own.
Dennis thought it would be nice to have a real Christmas tree and asked Lee if there was somewhere they could go and cut one down. Lee found Woodward's Christmas Tree Farm.
"I thought it was a lot of fun," Dennis said of the Christmas-tree hunt. "The snow added a nice element for us. We get rain (in Seattle). We don't get snow. The snow gave it more of a Christmas feel."
They also enjoyed sitting around a bonfire eating hotdogs and drinking hot chocolate, a tradition for visitors to Woodward's.
Although he expects some business today and even Christmas Eve, Woodward said the season is winding down. Only a handful of people visited Sunday.
The weeks leading to Christmas were busy. Woodward said about 200 trees a day sold the last three weekends.
He said the family's Privato Vineyard and Winery has also done well this holiday season.
"The wine is outdoing the Christmas trees," said Woodward.
Woodward's Christmas Tree Farm also sells trees at the city's two Safeway locations. The farm has been in business for more than 20 years.
