Information available for TNRD dangerous dog bylaw

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s dangerous dog bylaw took effect Jan. 1, and anyone wanting to learn more about it can do so online.

The bylaw is posted on the regional district’s website, tnrd.ca.

Regional directors approved the bylaw in May, and launched it as a pilot project in electoral areas I (Blue Sky Country), M (Nicola Valley), N (Lower Nicola) and P (Rivers and Peaks).

The TNRD’s animal control service contracted out to K-9 Services last fall, which is responsible for enforcement for one year. The pilot will be assessed at the end of the year.

Ratepayers in the four electoral areas pay $4.37 per $100,000 of assessed property, which translates into around $5 to $10.59 per household.

Some area directors questioned the initiative, which has been on the drawing board for the past year, fearing that costs might run away on them.
