Campus Corner: Cougars hammer WolfPack women

It was an ugly start to the second half of the Canada West women’s basketball season for the TRU WolfPack.

The WolfPack dropped to 6-5 after being hammered 99-39 by the host U of Regina Cougars on Thursday evening. The Cougars improved to 9-2.

TRU had enjoyed a nice first half to its season, winning six of 10 games with a young roster, and entered the December break on a three-game winning streak. All the good vibes went out the window early against Regina, as the Cougars scored the last 17 points of the first quarter for a 27-7 lead. Regina kept piling on, and led 52-20 at the half.

It was a banner night for the Cougars, who had six players reach double-digits in points. Janine Gujit had 16 points to lead the way, with Nicole Clarke scoring 15. Megan Chamberlin scored 13, Charoltte Kot had 12, Alyssa Kajati added 11 and Katie Polischuk scored 10. Kajati also had 13 rebounds and Chamberlin picked up 11.

The WolfPack, which went 14-for-73 (19 per cent) from the field, was led by Ryan Kennedy’s nine points.

TRU will try to figure things out tonight, when it plays the Bobcats (2-8) in Brandon.
