What an amazing tournament the Kamloops International Bantam Ice Hockey Tournament was last weekend!
There were a few minor challenges, but with the directors and volunteers we have, they were dealt with promptly. An outstanding group, with one mindset — put on a first class tournament.
The letter to the editor in Tuesday’s Daily News summarized it. It choked me up just reading it. Thank you, Kimberly Smith; it is “all about the kids.”
A special thank-you to sports reporter Mark Hunter for your timely and well written articles on KIBIHT. We will miss all of you.
I can’t say enough about the support we received from the media, sponsors, volunteers and fans. The stands in the Olympic rink were filled to capacity for the T1 final.
The media as a whole have been fantastic in promoting and reporting on the event. A big thank-you to Earl Seitz, Jon Keen and Jim Reynolds for your roles as “on ice” and banquet emcees.
Our sponsors are the financial backbone of this and many other events. Without them, it just couldn’t happen. We had sponsors come forward who have no connection to hockey whatsoever, offering financial support. How community minded is that?
Volunteers — you are what make KIBIHT and Kamloops the best.
We, and I, personally, would like to thank everyone for your participation, comments and ideas that helped make this tournament a class act.
