Four adults, three children flee after Winnipeg home catches fire

WINNIPEG - A child is in unstable condition after a Winnipeg house was hit by a fire that may have stemmed from a youngster's fear of spiders.

Four adults and three children escaped flames overnight that engulfed the top floor of the central-area home.

All seven were sent to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation but it's believed one of the children suffered burns to a hand.

Emergency officials say their conditions are not life-threatening.

A relative says she was told the fire started after one of the youngsters lit a spider that was on her bed, but investigators have not confirmed the report.

They think the fire started in a second-floor bedroom.
