TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays are providing fans with peanut allergies a little relief this season.
The baseball club will offer a peanut controlled zone for three games at Rogers Centre.
No peanuts or other nuts will be available in specified areas on May 28 against the Baltimore Orioles, July 24 versus the Oakland Athletics and Aug. 10 against the New York Yankees.
Tickets for the peanut controlled zone will be reserved for fans with peanut and other nut allergies as well as their family and friends.
They will be seated in a section of the 200 level outfield seats in right field.
The Jays say they hope to offer the special section in future seasons.
The Canadian Anaphylaxis Initiative applauded the move, saying it will give people with allergies a chance to enjoy live baseball.
While the area will be nut-controlled, that doesn't mean it will be peanut or nut-free. With Rogers Centre being an open-air facility, wind and other conditions may impact the peanut controlled zone. As well, the Blue Jays add they can't guarantee the absence of peanuts, nuts or particles or residue from either.
