PENTICTON, B.C. - Residents in several small communities in British Columbian's Okanagan region have been told to leave their homes due to the risk of flash floods.
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has issued an evacuation order for homes west of Chute Lake, north of Penticton.
The regional district says it issued the order because of what it describes as the "immediate danger of life and safety due to imminent danger of a flash flood."
The RCMP, Penticton Search and Rescue and the Naramata fire department are helping with the evacuation.
Several communities in the region have been under warnings and alerts in recent days as heavy rains and record snowpacks have created the potential for serious flooding.
Earlier in the week, a local state of emergency was declared in West Kelowna, as a creek in that community breached a dike, flooding several homes.
