Florida library puts racy 'Fifty Shades of Grey' books back on shelves in response to requests

VIERA, Fla. - A Florida county is putting the racy romance trilogy "Fifty Shades of Grey" back on its library shelves.

The Brevard County Library System had pulled 19 copies of the bestsellers from its bookshelves earlier this month. County officials said the decision was made after they read reviews of the trilogy initially self-published by the author in e-reader form.

A county spokesman also called the books "semi-pornographic."

On Monday, the county announced that "Fifty Shades of Grey" would be available immediately through the library in response to requests from residents.

Library Services Director Cathy Schweinsberg said the library was against censorship and was reviewing its selection criteria.

Public libraries in several states have banned to book trilogy, saying it's too steamy or too poorly written.
