PORT MOODY, B.C. - Vancouver police have identified the victim of a brazen shooting outside a rec centre in Port Moody and say he was connected to a notorious gang.
Const. Lindsey Houghton says 35-year-old Gurbinder Singh Toor of Squamish was affiliated with the Dhak-Dhure crime group and the attack appears to have been targeted.
He says Toor was fatally shot in the centre's parking lot on Wednesday night, although police don't know which gang was involved.
Houghton says the man was known to police and the investigation, which Port Moody police handed to the Vancouver force, is continuing.
He says the victim appeared to have been getting out of his car to play ball hockey when he was sprayed by what witnesses have described as rapid gunfire.
Investigators say a dark-coloured SUV was reportedly spotted leaving the scene.
