Film company in Saskatchewan says it's moving away due to end of film tax credit

REGINA - A film and TV production company in Regina says it's closing its doors and moving away because of the Saskatchewan government's decision to axe its film employment tax credit.

Partners in Motion has been in Saskatchewan for the past 20 years filming a number of shows that are aired internationally, including reality shows such as "Trading Places" and "The Re-Inventors."

General manager Jeff Stecyk says he hopes the province will offer a feasible alternative to the tax credit, but he says the company needs to make plans based on there not being one.

The company hasn't decided where it will move, but is considering Winnipeg, Toronto or Vancouver.

The government has proposed a non-refundable tax credit as a replacement, but critics say it's based on a corporate income tax model that won't work for the film industry.

Stecyk says up to 20 full-time employees will be affected, and the number of part-time and contractors could number in the hundreds. (CJME)
