Regional district in B.C. asks for emergency help to deal with flood threat

KELOWNA, B.C. - A regional district in B.C.'s Okanagan region has asked the province for emergency funding to deal with the ongoing threat of flooding.

The Regional District of the Central Okanagan submitted the request in light of concerns about Shorts Creek in an area north of Kelowna.

The district's board has been told high water levels and erosion along the creek in the Fintry area could cause problems.

The district is developing a plan to stop any serious erosion by diverting flows of the creek.

High water levels in several areas of the province have prompted flooding warnings and evacuations in recent weeks.
