VANCOUVER - An Abbotsford, B.C., man with reputed links to Greater Vancouver's gang underworld has lost an appeal of his weapons conviction.
The B.C. Court of Appeal has dismissed Jamie Bacon's claim that his rights were violated when evidence of a weapons seizure was admitted at his lower court trial.
The 26-year-old who, with his two brothers, has been linked by police to the leadership of the Red Scorpions gang, argued officers did not have a warrant when they searched an SUV after he had been shot outside his Abbotsford home in April 2007.
Several guns were found in a secret compartment in the SUV and Bacon was sentenced to seven years in prison on the weapons counts.
He is also awaiting trial in connection with the so-called Surrey Six slayings in which four alleged gang members and two innocent bystanders were murdered in a Metro Vancouver apartment in October 2007.
Bacon's elder brother, Jarrod, is serving a 12-year-sentence after being convicted in May on drug trafficking charges, while his eldest brother, Jonathan, was shot to death in a gang hit in Kelowna last summer.
