VANCOUVER - For one night at least the Vancouver Giants managed to stop the bleeding.
The league-worst Giants ended a six-game Western Hockey League losing streak Wednesday with a 5-1 win over the Prince Albert Raiders.
Jackson Houck scored twice for Vancouver (13-38-0), while Brendan Rouse, Carter Popoff and Arvin Atwal, with his first WHL goal, each added singles. Jared Rathjen stopped 22 shots for the Giants.
Vancouver, playing with five 16-year-olds in their lineup, scored three unanswered goals in the first period en route to its first victory since beating Kelowna 3-2 on Jan. 12.
Mark McNeill had the lone goal for the Raiders (29-18-4), who finished a five-game road trip through B.C. with two wins. Luke Siemens meanwhile was overwhelmed in net, and had to make 52 saves for Prince Albert.
With the defeat, Prince Albert dropped 15 points behind the first-place Edmonton Oil Kings in the Eastern Conference standings. The Oil Kings were 4-2 winners over the Kootenay Ice earlier Wednesday.
