The Kamloops SPCA is getting a name change to better describe the area where the animals it cares for come from.

The branch has been renamed to the Kamloops and District Branch of the B.C. SPCA.

The shelter handles 1,200 to 1,300 animals every year. Those animals come from Barriere, Clearwater, Merritt, Spences Bridge, Chase, Clinton and Lillooet as well as Kamloops.

The name change was voted in unanimously by the branch's community council earlier this month. The organization will continue to use its old letterhead and business cards until they are gone.

Funds to fix roof of Clearwater hall

The roof of the Upper Clearwater Community Hall will receive new insulation thanks to $10,000 from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.

Regional directors approved the funding during a board meeting Thursday afternoon. The money comes from the Federal Gas Tax Community Works Fund.

The TNRD has approved $2.69 million for 66 projects under the Federal Gas Tax Fund.
