Conservatives caused problem

In response to your editorial about the fiscal prudence of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government reducing the mortgage amortization period (Housing Dip Note Bad News, The Daily News, Dec. 6), I would like to point out that it was Harper and Finance Minister Jim Flaherty's first budget in 2006 that introduced zero-down, 40-year mortgages in the first place. Now that Flaherty has incrementally reduced the period back, he is being lauded by your paper and others who have very short memories.

That's exactly what our esteemed federal government hopes for - short memories and no research - and it works. I wonder how many homeowners Harper and Flaherty drove into foreclosure and bankruptcy. And the media continues to help them cover their tracks.
