The new sports bar that flanks the Signature Sandman Hotel across from Interior Savings Centre is holding a recruitment drive at TRU starting today.
Sean Hobson, a manager with the Shark Club restaurant chain, said the one-week hiring blitz is timed to prepare for a tentative opening of the bar by early March.
The hiring will allow a month of training for 45 to 50 staff, including 15 to 20 management, event and kitchen staff as well as 30 servers and bartenders.
The hiring drive is open to the public as well as university students.
A hiring booth will rotate around campus at the main entrances to buildings between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the following dates: Today, Campus Activity Centre; Wednesday, Jan. 8, House of Learning; Tuesday, Jan. 14, International Building; Thursday, Jan. 16, Old Main; Monday, Jan. 20, International Building; and Wednesday, Jan. 22, Old Main.
Hobson said the location should be a good one with the business located across from the city's largest arena.
"We bill it as a premium sports bar - a little bit better service and featuring all major sporting events," on an as many as 30 TVs.
An opening date for the six-storey hotel has not been announced, but the $25-million construction project is expected to be complete this spring. The Rockford Grill, another restaurant, will flank the opposite end of the hotel, offering Asian-inspired West Coast cuisine.
As a whole, the hotel is expected to create about 200 jobs.
