Icy roads are to blame for a bad accident Tuesday morning on Sun Peaks Road that smashed up two vehicles, said Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Doug Aird.
A woman was driving a van west on Sun Peaks Road about 1.5 kilometres past the Knouff Lake turnoff at about 8 a.m. when she lost control coming around a curve, Aird said.
The van went into the wrong lane and hit a pickup truck travelling toward Sun Peaks. The pickup went sideways off the road. The van kept going and eventually went down a 20-foot embankment.
The woman, who was driving with her son, was sent to hospital with minor cuts. Airbags deployed in the pickup truck and a passenger suffered a broken wrist.
As of 10:30 a.m., tow trucks were still trying to get the vehicles out.
Aird said sub-zero temperatures have warmed up to around freezing, making for slick road conditions.
About the same time - in an unrelated accident - another car was found in a ditch nearby, but there was no damage or injuries in this case.
