A snowmobiler was knocked off his machine into the middle of the road late Saturday night, where he was run over by a friend driving a pickup truck.

The 42-year-old Kamloops man suffered broken ribs and injuries to his wrist and hand in the incident on Lac Du Bois Forest Road, Kamloops RCMP said.

Three friends had been taking turns riding the snowmobile in an area just past the 10-kilometre marker. One of them decided to ride the machine closer into town before putting it on the trailer. He was followed by friends in separate vehicles.

The snowmobile driver lost control on a corner and flipped into the centre of the road. His friend, a 21-year-old Kamloops man, who was following in a 1995 red Chevrolet C15 pickup truck, saw the snowmobile on its side as he rounded the corner.

He then noticed his friend on the road, braked hard, but was not able to stop on the icy road before running over the man.

Emergency crews transported him to Royal Inland Hospital with what were determined to be non-life-threatening injuries.

None of the men involved had been drinking and speed was ruled out as a factor, police said.

The snowmobile operator was issued a ticket for driving an uninsured snowmobile and for driving without reasonable consideration.
