Sports Briefs: Four local basketball players invited to selection camp

Sukh Heer Matonovich had all three of her side's goals in Middleton Petroleum's 3-2 victory over Expert Collision in a Kamloops Women's Soccer League Open Tier 1 game Turesday.

Her goals spoiled a solid effort from Amanda Hunter, who had two goals for Expert.

In other KWSL action Tuesday:

* Heather Reibin backstopped Hansport to a 2-0 victory over the Subway Spice. Miranda Cuthberton had both goals.

* Bryann Palmer scored twice as Stainer U played to a 3-3 draw with Fox 'N Hounds, which got two goals from Jackie Bekkering. Katie Bennett also scored for Stainer, with Christa Palasty having Fox 'N Hounds' other goal.

* Heather Grieves earned the shutout and Amanda Cuthbertson scored the game's only goals as Hansport blanked Subway Spice, 2-0.

Chris Richards scored twice on Tuesday, leading U District FC to a 3-0 victory over Sundance Liquor Store in a Kamloops Men's Soccer League game.

Haddy Tembo had the game's other goal.

In one other game, Brad Clark scored twice to help Hansport to a 6-1 victory over Pronto Enterprises. Clayton Farber, Brad Hansen, Kyle Fertile and Darren Rezeli scored for Hansport. Keenen Zimmerman had Pronto's lone goal.

Four Kamloops girls have been invited to a selection camp for the provincial U14 basketball team.

Ally Lincoln, Bailey Schmidt, Ashton Stephens and Emily Ferguson will attend the provincial team camp in Vancouver this weekend.

They were part of a regional team that played in a Jamboree in Langley last weekend, winning their opening game and then losing two close ones. Also on that team were Anola Bruneau, Evangeline Fitschen, Jewell Phillips, Kinsey Vosper, Kacey Dhillion and Madison Gobeil.

Northern Trailer rapped 13 hits and took advantage of 11 walks in scoring a 17-1 four-inning run-spread victory over Chase in Kamloops Major Men's Fastball League action at Charles Anderson Stadium on Tuesday night.

Kevin Kawaguchi led the winners at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI, and he scored three runs. Russ Huner added three hits, four RBI and a run, and Cory Warner doubled, singles, scored three times and drove in two runs.

Scott Austin picked up the pitching victory, giving up three hits and striking out six.

Emory Minnabarriet, the losing pitcher, had two of Chase's hits, including a first-inning RBI triple.

In the other game, the North Thompson Titans bounced the Carinals 8-1 in a game shortened to five innings by run spread.

Steve Wolsted got the victory over Blair MacDonald.

Chris Syderham and Mason Stanley each had two-run homers for the victors, while Mark Matthew was 2-for-2. Syderham also had another hit and scored another run.

Brad Anderson had a first-inning homer for the Cardinals.

Outland Roofing doubled Andre's Telus 4-2 in a Kamloops Recreational Soccer League game 30-plus game played on Tuesday.

Jon Collavini, Frank Faraone, Volker Wolf and Marco Rueda scored for the roofers. The names of Andre's scorers weren't available.
