Blackwell Dairy run made its way through scenic Barnhartvale last weekend.

The Kamloops Ridge Runners hosted the 28th annual Blackwell Dairy Run on Sunday, May 27. The event was a success with a total of 248 registered participants. This included 181 registered runners/walkers on the demanding 15km, as well as 67 participants in the 3.5km fun run.

While we had over 100 participants from Kamloops, the majority of visiting runners and walkers in this The Interior Running Association sanctioned event were from the Thompson Okanagan. Also noted were those from Victoria to Edmonton, and all points in between. Both the 3.5km and 15km runs feature long hills, but the incredible scenery, pancake breakfast, ice cream and a family friendly atmosphere more than made up for it.

We would like to thank Blackwell Dairy Farm and the entire Blackwell family for their support the last 29 years. They have always been very involved in the Kamloops community and we are proud to not only call them sponsors, but our friends as well. In 2013, the Blackwell Dairy Farm celebrates their 100th birthday and we plan on having one heck of celebration at the Blackwell Dairy Run.

While the Blackwell Dairy handed out ice cream and chocolate milk, the Paddle Wheelers Lions club put on a great pancake breakfast. The Run is noted for it's fantastic breakfast and food over the years! Of course, we have to mention our incredible volunteers. Without them, we would not be able to put on an event like this. We honestly cannot thank those enough their help.

Lastly, we would like to thank the residents of Barnhartvale. We realize that the race may have been a slight inconvenience during the morning and we appreciate you slowing down and sharing the roads with our participants. With the influx of 300 people into your neighbourhood, the traffic, parking and noise was more than normal on a quiet Sunday morning. However, it is the same qualities that drew you to your neighbourhood that makes the runners return each year.

We received numerous comments about how beautiful the community is and how we are lucky to have a neighbourhood like Barhnhartvale. Thank you for allowing us to showcase not only Barnhartvale, but Kamloops as well.

On behalf of the Kamloops Ridge Runners, thank you to everyone who was a part of the 2012 Blackwell Dairy Run. You have made it an event that not only makes us proud, but holds a special place in our heart.
