The TRU WolfPack women's volleyball team has signed its fifth prospect for the 2012-13 Canada West season.

Head coach Keith Lundgren announced Wednesday that Kristen Giesbrecht, a middle from Gretna, Man., has signed on for next season. Giesbrecht, who stands 5-foot-10, hopes to study sciences or education.

Lundgren first watched Giesbrecht play at a club tournament in March. Giesbrecht attended Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna, which is just north of the North Dakota border straight south of Winnipeg.

"I was really impressed with her blocking," said Lundgren, in a news release. "She is a great blocker. Her ability to jump and her athletic ability really made her stand out. She came out and had a really great training session."

MCI finished fourth at the Manitoba AA championship, and Giesbrecht also played for the Aztecs Tier 1 club team.

The WolfPack also has signed setter Katie Woo of Coquitlam, outsides Hillary Schell of Kelowna and Rachel Murray of Edmonton and libero Rebecca Merasty of Meadow Lake, Sask.

The KIJHL's highest scoring line from the 2011-12 season will be together with the TRU WolfPack hockey team next season.

Colten De Frias of Kamloops has signed with the WolfPack, the team announced Wednesday. He will play at TRU for next B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

De Frias, a 5-foot-8 forward, ended last KIJHL season with 95 points, 58 of them assists, in 48 games playing alongside centre Tyler Jackson and winger Chase Edwards, who already have signed with TRU. The line combined for 254 points.

"I am excited and thrilled to be joining the WolfPack," De Frias said, in a news release. " To be honest, it made my decision so much easier once I heard and read that my old linemates - not just my linemates but good childhood friends from last year off the Storm - had signed with the WolfPack. I am hoping to reunite with them and other friends of mine on the TRU team."

De Frias' family billeted WolfPack defenceman Mike McCance last season, and Colten's older brother, Drew De Frias, was a rookie with TRU in 2011-12.

Along with Edwards, Jackson and De Frias, the WolfPack also has signed forwards Anthony Delong of Castlegar, Brennan Wright of Thunder Bay and Rigby Burgart of Fort St. James.
