KSO violinist named top cadet musician

Blythe Heywood, who plays second violin with Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, has been named the top cadet musician in Canada.

At the final concert of 2009 of the B.C. Regional Cadet Honour Band, retired Lt.-Col. Philip Sherwin, president of the B.C. Branch of the Army Cadet League of Canada, announced Cadet Master Warrant Officer Blythe Heywood of 1705 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps in Vernon is to be the 2009 recipient of the the Lieutenant-General J.W. Quinn Award.

Heywood has been regularly featured as a soloist with the honour band brought together each spring break. This year the band performed five concerts on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, and Heywood performed the Franz Strauss French Horn Concerto Opus 8.

Heywood lives in the Mabel Lake community of Kingfisher near Enderby. Her mother, Brenda Bolton Heywood, grew up in Kamloops.
