NAME:Margit Bull and Sweetgrass (Rod Bandura, Ron Corea)
CRAFT:We think of ourselves as a folk-rock band with a wide variety of covers as well as original music.
THE BEGINNINGS:I have been playing around town and up at Sun Peaks for about 15 years now. It all started as a hobby and slowly turned into paying gigs. I did this while working full time and raising my sons who are now 16 and 18. I was never in a hurry; it has always been family first. Two years ago, I was introduced to Rod Bandura, an incredibly talented guitar player. I asked if he would be interested in playing a few shows with me. He then introduced me to Ron Corea. I was amazed at how many sounds Ron could get out of one drum. The three of us seemed to gel. We have probably played close to 100 shows together now. Our chemistry when are on stage is amazing; Rod and Ron make my musical life complete. I don't know what I would do without them.
All of our shows are so much fun, but there are definitely some highlights that stand out for us. Last July, we opened for Kevin Costner at Sun Peaks. In November, we opened for Barney Bentall at the Sagebrush and will be doing so again this November. On Wednesday, May 8, we are opening for Ridley Bent at the Sagebrush theatre as well. These shows are put on by the Kamloops Alano Societyas fundraisers for their organization. (Tickets are at Kamloops Live Box office).
DAY SHIFT:I teach private music lessons as well as do some contract work for the school district teaching glee clubs throughout various schools in the area. I am lucky enough to have music as my day job as well as my night job. I get to do what I love for a living with two of the kindest men I have ever met. Not a lot of people can say that.
When I am not playing music, I am a mother. Driving my children here, there and everywhere . . . walking the dogs in the woods or riding my horse. I get my energy from being outdoors. It is where I can come down from a busy day, think of lyrics or just let my mind go blank.
IN FIVE YEARS:It is hard to say where we will be in five years. As I said before, I have never been in a hurry. My boys are older now so I would love to do some touring. Our new CD will be out by the summer. It is going to be incredible. We will have a CD release party here in Kamloops and then take it from there. Who knows what the future holds, but I know that I will always be involved and always have a guitar in my hands. I wouldn't have it any other way.
BRIGHT LIGHTS:I feel it is important to thank the people of Kamloops and Sun Peaks for all of the support we have received. The regulars who come to our shows and bring their friends are also a huge part of our success. Thank you!
All of our events are listed on my website www.margitbull.caas well as on the Margit Bull fan page on Facebook. Please check these sites out and make plans to come and see a show. Thank you again Kamloops for your kindness and generosity.
