A small donation warms body and soul

Kamloops residents can share the cozy warm feeling of a new fleece blanket with the city's homeless for a mere $5 starting next week.

The local Urban Barn furniture and home accessory retailer is joining 39 other locations across Western Canada for the second annual Blanket the Country in Warmth program from Nov. 15 to Dec. 8.

"Reaching out and helping those locally brings warmth not only to those in need, but to those who give as well," said Tanya Youd, Kamloops Urban Barn store manager.

"We look forward to spreading the warmth around Kamloops again this year."

For each $5 donation dropped off at the store at 1210 Summit Drive, Urban Barn will donate a new fleece blanket to Emerald Centre.

The emergency shelter provides accommodation for men, women and children who are homeless, with a focus on helping individuals and families find support in the community and stable housing.

Urban Barn hopes to surpass last year's successful campaign donation of 8,000 blankets with a new goal of donating 10,000 blankets with the support of its customers.
