Drunk driver to blame for Overlander Bridge traffic snarl

The driver accused of causing a minor accident that brought northbound traffic to a halt on the Overlander Bridge for half an hour was drunk at the time of the crash, police said.

Staff Sgt. Doug Aird said the mishap backed up traffic for a kilometre late Saturday afternoon. A northbound lane was blocked for more than 30 minutes while the car - a Toyota Tercel - was loaded onto flatdeck truck and removed.

The motorist faces charges of driving over .08 and has been fined for driving without reasonable consideration and driving without insurance, Aird said in a press release.
