First female firefighter part of calendar project

They're giving guys as well as gals a reason to buy the second annual Kamloops Firefighters Calendar.

For the first time the swimsuit calendar - an annual fundraiser for the RIH Foundation and the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund - will include a local female firefighter in addition to 11 of her colleagues.

Erin Bruzzese, a 10-year veteran of Kamloops Fire and Rescue, said she simply volunteered for a worthy cause.

"We all volunteered to do it," she said. "I thought it would be an interesting thing to get involved in."

The RIH Foundation is close to home while the burn fund, which provides support for burn victims, "is close to our hearts," Bruzzese said.

Her involvement is not the only addition to the project this year. Next Friday, Nov. 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m., ORA Restaurant & Lounge hosts the inaugural Kamloops Firefighters Calendar Party.

Basically, it's a ladies' night event in which firefighters featured in the calendar will be waiting on tables and mingling with party-goers. The dinner includes a complimentary glass of champagne and chances to win prizes of hotel stays, concert tickets and dinner offers. There will be an auction as well of a dinner at the fire hall prepared by firefighters.

"ORA is trying to raise funds for charity as well, so we're combining to help out both parties," said Jamie Chase, media liaison.

Last year the calendar alone raised $32,000. This year, they're aiming to boost that to $40,000 given the extra momentum.

About 2,000 calendars are printed and sold for $20 apiece.

"Our goal is to sell all 2,000 by the end of November."

The calendars can be purchased at Firehall No. 1, 1205 Summit Dr. Reservations are required for the dinner. Call 250-372-5312 to book a table.
