Sun Peaks 50th anniversary celebrations go all day Saturday

Sun Peaks is starting its 50 thanniversary celebrations with a day full of events and offerings Saturday.

It all begins at 9 a.m., with lift tickets at 50 per cent off and a Mountain Tour card game starting off. Get your card by the stage at the Sundance Express and collect stamps at each chairlift. There's a draw at 3 p.m. for all cards submitted to the registration table by that time.

At 11:30 a.m., anyone interested is asked to bring a recent photo, memento or other small items representative of Sun Peaks today to be put into a 10-year time capsule. Contributions are being taken until Jan. 27, 2012 when it will close for a decade.

At 12:30 and 2 p.m., Paul Filek rocks the main stage. Also at 12:30 p.m., there's a barbecue at Masa's Bar and Grill.

No celebration is complete without cake, and 1:30 is the time to get the plates out on Saturday. There will also be prizes for those best dressed in vintage ski clothes.

A 50 thanniversary quilt is on display throughout the day at the guest services office, made by the Sun Peaks Quilters Guild.

And at 4 p.m., Masa's will be the site for the Miss Tod Mountain pageant, which will feature some ski-gear fashions and a judging panel that includes Natalie Sanesh, the last winner in 1987.
