Task force to work toward feasibility study for performing arts centre

The mayor's election promise to get working on a performing arts centre is entering its first act.

Council voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize the creation of a community committee that will work toward a feasibility study for a performing arts centre.

The motion came out of a recommendation from the City's arts commission.

Coun. Pat Wallace said it was a great idea.

"I would like to amend that, to make it a mayor's task force so it isn't a commitment of money to do it but a group with a vested interest in our city," she said.

Coun. Marg Spina suggested the City look into an infrastructure program she heard about last week at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' conference.

She said Saskatoon and the Saskatchewan government chipped in with Ottawa to add a performing arts centre onto the back of an existing museum.

Council voted unanimously in favour of setting up the task force.
