Volunteer Kamloops is a charitable organization providing volunteer placement and support services to community organizations.

2011 Western Canada Summer Games, Aug. 4-15

The Games have reached their volunteer goal and are not taking new volunteers at this time. Volunteers can expect to receive an email or phone call regarding their accreditation and orientation schedule. Eureka Science Program

The volunteer instructor is responsible for classroom support for the Eureka! Science program's summer camps. They help the instructors in the classroom and work directly with the children. Volunteers who can help through the full week are preferred.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Kamloops

Are you willing to share your interests and enthusiasm with a young person needing a role model? Men are needed to match with boys for "50 Boys in 50 Days." Please step forward, as there is a waiting list of 100 young people needing your support! Check events calendar at www.volunteerkamloops.org for details of all the events associated with this campaign, which ends Aug. 13.

Kamloops Bear Aware

Public education assistance needed to help prevent bears gathering around our city. Learn and present information about reducing bear attractants. Options for involvement include public displays, presentations to groups, creating educational materials, possibly going door to door when bear problems are an issue.

Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

Local committee needed to organize for Oct. 3 event: Logistics aspects (run day, registration, route) and fundraising (individual, team, and communications/promotion). Details on the Volunteer Kamloops website under Volunteer Opportunities: Special Events.

Kamloops Therapuetic Riding Association

Second annual Dash to Make a Difference on Aug. 23. Help in advance to find sponsors, distribute pledge forms. Also on event day, set up for family fun activities downtown, organize for this amazing scavenger hunt/race. Gardengate - Project of Open Door Group

1) Special project: underground cold storage project. To assist building this structure or advising on the project you need to be able to read plans and ideally have skills with concrete block construction.

2) Many general volunteer tasks in the garden and greenhouse. Gardengate is a special project of Open Door Group that provides a setting for supporting volunteers facing mental health challenges, but also contributes thousands of pounds of produce to the food bank annually. Bonus for volunteers is your share of fresh produce!

The Canadian Red Cross, Health Equipment Loan Program

HELP is a volunteer-driven, community-based program that provides free, short-term loans of essential medical equipment that allows people to safely recover at home. Clients are referred by health care practitioners who prescribe the appropriate equipment to support client care at home. Please contact the Kamloops Canadian Red Cross office at 250-372-2334 and ask for Marion for more information on how to become a volunteer. Full training and support is provided.

Rona MS Bike Tour

The Kamloops and Area Chapter, MS Society of Canada is looking for volunteers for the 2011 Rona MS Bike tour happening on Sept. 11.
