The KIJHL's Kamloops Storm went 1-2 in its last weekend of exhibition action.
Kamloops lost 5-3 to the Grizzlies in Revelstoke on Sunday to finish the preseason 2-2. The Storm had beaten Revelstoke 7-1 on Wednesday, before splitting with the Kelowna Chiefs, losing 10-3 in Kelowna on Friday and winning 4-3 on Saturday in Shulus, west of Merritt.
Kamloops is scheduled to open the regular season on Friday, 7 p.m., against the Fernie Ghostriders at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre.
On Sunday, the Storm was down 3-0 after two periods, but came back to tie it. Revelstoke scored shorthanded with 2:09 remaining and iced it with an empty-netter.
Geoff Smith, head coach of the Storm, wrote in an email that Revelstoke had five midget-aged players dressed, compared to the Storm's 11.
"They had three 20-year-olds, (and) we had none and only one 19-year-old," Smith wrote. "Great showing for our lineup. Guys played hard."
Josh Rasmussen, Briar McNaney and Shane Poulsen scored the goals for Kamloops.
Jake Mattes started in goal for Kamloops, allowing one goal, and Ty Hamer-Jackson allowed three in the second half.
On Saturday in Shulus, Rasmussen, Tyler Jarvis-Rorison, Jackie Lu and Kurt Dorn scored for the Storm, and Chris Chritchley had two assists. Mattes and Hayden Smith split the goaltending.
Geoff Smith wrote that he was "happy with the exhibition season," considering the young lineup Kamloops utilized, and that the opener "will be a great game to watch."
"We . . . are very excited for it," he wrote.
