Minor Baseball: Blues are anything but, as they get two victories

The Blues opened their season with a pair of weekend victories over Kelowna squads.


Samuel Avila, Reade Bentz and Brendan Coulter pitched as the Blues got started with a 12-8 victory over Kelowna 1. Avila, Coulter, Blaise Brewer and Talon Bennett each had two hits, and Tobin Huffman, Trey Chisholm and Bentz each singled.


Coulter and Brewer each drove in three runs, Avila and Hoffman drove in two apiece, and Chisholm and Jake Horvath each drove in one.


Coulter hit a bases-clearing double to put the Blues ahead for good in a 7-4 victory over Kelowna 2. Bentz and Ben MacDonald each had two singles, Chisholm swatted a double and Avila, McCoy Pearce-Orr and Vincent Daley had singles.


Pearce-Orr, Horvath and Coulter were the pitchers.

BANTAM


The Blue Jays' first game went well, with Kamloops beating the Chase Chiefs 16-6.


Cody McKay started on the mound for the Blue Jays, with Gage Cunningham, Darrion Clark and Nick Heinemann working relief.


Jake Dogterom went 2-for-2 with two runs and four RBI. Seth Crosman scored a pair of runs, with Ryan Szucs, Zach Faubert and McKay also scoring runs.
