Sports Briefs: Bojeson braks Ashcroft Hillclimb mark

Peter Lonchar, Gavin Khabra and Jeevn Bains scored the goals as Sundance Liquorstore defeated Fabutan/Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory 3-0 in a Kamloops Men's Soccer League game played on Sunday.

In other games:

* Noble Pig and U District FC played to a 1-1 tie. Noble Pig got its goal from Zach Mirosevic, with Christopher Abiona counting for U District.

* The Saudi Wolfpack and Premium Mortgage played to a 3-3 tie. The Wolfpack got its goals from Fahad Almaghrabi, Weleed Alajmi and Stefan Morris, while Phil Juthma, RJ Gough and Brandon Douglas replied for Premium Mortgage.

The Kamloops Rattlers 1 had to settle for silver at the Thompson Okanagan novice lacrosse championship in Vernon on Sunday.

The Rattlers were edged 7-5 by Penticton in the championship game.

The teams were tied 2-2 after the first period, and Penticton held a slim 5-4 lead after two frames.

Jax Anderson scored four times to lead Kamloops, and Millan Webster tallied once in support of goaltender Josh Hamling.

The Rattlers had advanced to the final with a 7-4 victory over the Kamloops Rattlers 3 in semifinal action Saturday. Jackson Steed scored three times, Webster had two goals, and Anderson and Ethan Kaban each tallied once to help Hamling to the goaltending victory.

All 22 riders who entered were able to complete the gruelling Infamous Aschroft Hillclimb that was held Sunday by the Interior Grasslands Cycling Club.

That included Para-Olympian Pramod Ski-Kim, who was supported by Jim Knowles and finished 13th.

Martin Bojeson and Aaron Weiss broke away from the pack about a third into the race, with Bojeson going on to set a course record of 47 minutes 59.50 seconds, breaking the record set by Ian Fillinger last year.

Weiss placed second in 52:04:10, with Larry Hindle third (54:28:20), Peter Holzhuiter fourth (54:35:80) and Doug Paeth fifth (57:55:70).

The top 10 was rounded out by Dana Manhard (58:21:70); Dan Hill (1:01:01); Maurice Maher (1:02:22); Melissa Lowenberg (1:04:49), who was the fastest female competitor; and Tracy Moore (1:08:22).

Ray Woodley (1:10:33) was 11th, followed by Colin Holte (1:14:47); Ski-Kim (1:14:53); Dan Brewin (1:24:57); Alyssa Manhard (1:25:59), who is a junior; Ethan Wenger (1:27:30), who was the youngest competitor and finished ahead of his mother; Shawn Wenger (1:27:32); Sarah Manhard (1:28:52), another junior; Glen Buchanan (1:31:13); Briggie Schroeder (1:33:10); Tracy Kubik (1:33:24); and Darin St.Jacques (1:56:00).

The club has an Australian Pursuit scheduled for Thursday, with the start/finish line at the stockyards on Dallas Drive. The 54-km event is to begin at 6 p.m.

Frank Faraone, Martin Giguere and Jim Gorman had the goals to lead Outland Roofing to a 3-1 victory over Jay's Service in Kamloops Recreational Soccer League 30-plus action on Sunday.
