Sports Briefs: Finlay, Strump help Jay's to KRSL shutout victory

Dale Finlay scored three times as Jay's Service knocked off IJ Windows and Doors 6-0 in a Kamloops Recreational Soccer League 30-plus game Tuesday.

John Stump posted the shutout, with Todd Matthews scoring two goals and Mark Mackenzie adding a singleton.

In another Tuesday game, Outland Roofing overcame John Ramsey's three goals in a 4-3 victory over Piva Financial. Jon Collavini, with two, Volker Wolf and Jamie Skinner had the goals for Outland.

Carrie Neal of Kamloops won the open women's division at the B.C. disc golf championships in Whistler on the weekend.

Neal had to come from behind to win - in the opening round, she shot 82, leaving her three strokes back of Leanne Fulton of Vancouver. Neal cut the lead by a stroke after shooting 77 in Round 2, but was two strokes back heading into the third, and final, round.

Neal shot 81 in that final round, and won by four strokes when Fulton put up an 87. Neal earned $190 for the victory.

The Canadian short track speed skating team will begin its season of international competitions today.

The Canadians, featuring Jessica Hewitt of Kamloops, will be in Shanghai for a meet that runs through Sunday. Hewitt is set to compete in the 1,000- and 1,500-metre events.
