Sports Briefs: Vibe unable to top Moose

The Kamloops Vibe managed a tie in two tries against the top team in the South Coast Female Amateur Hockey League.

Kamloops played host to the Meadow Ridge Moose on the weekend. On Saturday, the teams played to a 3-3 draw, before the Moose prevailed 2-1 on Sunday.

The Moose went up 2-0 in the second period of the Saturday game, before the Vibe scored three straight. Meadow Ridge scored on the power play in the final three minutes to tie the game. Alyssa Reid had two goals in the draw, with Jenna Ormondy also scoring in support of Alissa Hibbert.

Ormondy opened the scoring early in the second period of Sunday's game, but the Moose scored twice in the final four minutes to win.

Rochelle Smith had two assists on the weekend.

The Moose remain undefeated on the season, at 14-0-1, with the Vibe in second at 9-2-4.

Kamloops is off until Jan. 18-19, when the Trinity Western University Titans visit.

The Kamloops Blaze White under-12 girls enjoyed a perfect weekend and brought home gold from an indoor soccer tournament in Salmon Arm.

Kamloops opened with a 5-0 victory over Salmon Arm, which Sadie Moyer backstopped. Leah Demsey, Tatiana Mueller, Fiona Brisco, Vanessa Hicks, and Jadyn McHallam had the goals.

Moyer had another shutout in a 4-0 victory over Vernon. Hicks had three goals and McHallam also scored in the victory.

Hicks and McHallam also scored in the Blaze's last game, a 2-2 draw with Penticton. Moyer again was in goal for Kamloops, which finished first overall on goal differential.

The Kamloops squad also includes Ridley Best, Hailey Brasseur-Connell, Olivia Corke, Satinka Manuel, Taryn Meixner, Jayden Peace and Caleigh Silversides.

Kamloops' Liam Moss brought home two gold medals from the Sport Jiu-Jitsu International Federation Worlds tournament in Long Beach Calif. on the weekend.

Moss competed in the Teen Featherweight Gi (uniform) division and the NoGi Submission Grappling division, winning gold in both. He finishes the season with 28 gold medals to his credit.

The Worlds tournament was Moss's 24th competition this season. He trains at Kamloops Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Aberdeen Judo Academy and North Kamloops and Valleyview high school wrestling clubs.

The Kamloops Storm and the Chase Heat are offering free admission to Satuday's game between the two clubs as their holiday gift to fans.

The game, which will be hosted in Chase at Art Holding Memorial Arena, starts at 7 p.m.

The Kelowna Owls defeated the NorKam Saints 66-40 in senior girls AAA basketball action Monday.

The Owls led 32-21 at the half, with Hannah Friesen scoring 10.

Katie Thorne led the Saints with 17.
