TRU Athletics: WolfPack picks up Fernie goalie

The TRU WolfPack hockey team has taken a step in replacing its two graduating goaltenders.

The WolfPack announced Thursday that it has signed goaltender Chris Solecki of Burns Lake. Solecki, 21, spent last season with the junior B Fernie Ghostriders of the KIJHL.

TRU has lost goaltenders Shane Mainprize and Riley Wall to graduation.

Solecki went 24-12-1, with a 2.88 GAA and .912 save percentage with the Ghostriders last season. He played two seasons with Fernie, winning 18 games in 2011-12, after spending his first two seasons with the North Okanagan Knights in Armstrong.

In his four seasons in the KIJHL, he went 52-59-3 and had seven shutouts.

TRU also has signed defencemen Alex Martin, Ryan Cuthbert and Cameron Weir, along with forward Brandon Watson.

TRU's badminton team continues to load up for the Pacific Western Athletic Association season, which is still five months away.

WolfPack coaches Alex and Ross Perkin announced Thursday that TRU has signed Carly Dal Ponte of the Kelowna Owls. She is the WolfPack's fifth recruit for the season, and is considered one of the top high school players in the Interior.

Dal Ponte, who has helped the Owls to a pair of top-13 finishes at high school provincials over the past two seasons, will look at pursuing a bachelor of business administration degree.

TRU already has signed Anthony Arduini and Ali Hines of South Kamloops, and Nathan McNeilly and Joel Feenstra of Salmon Arm.
